In a landmark move on June 12, 2025, the Andhra Pradesh government launched the much-awaited ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme, promising ₹15,000 for each school-going child to their mothers. This revolutionary initiative was introduced by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as part of the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) ‘Super Six’ promises made during the 2024 elections. The ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme not only reflects the TDP government’s strong commitment towards women’s empowerment but also reinforces its focus on improving the educational standards in the state. Under this program, every mother with children studying from Class I to XII will receive ₹13,000 directly into her bank account. Additionally, ₹2,000 is allocated for the development of school infrastructure, hygiene, and sanitation.
This scheme covers children studying in both government and private schools, which marks a significant step toward inclusive development. What makes the scheme more impactful is its per-child basis benefit. Earlier, similar schemes offered support only to one child per family, but Thalliki Vandanam ensures support for each enrolled student, irrespective of the number of children a mother has in school. More than 42.69 lakh mothers are expected to receive the financial benefit for over 54.94 lakh students in the first phase alone. The scheme’s overall target is to reach 67 lakh mothers across Andhra Pradesh, reflecting a massive and strategic TDP contribution toward the state’s social welfare. The TDP party has always been known for launching visionary schemes that empower women and promote educational opportunities. This new scheme is no different. The government has also set up a grievance redressal system to address any concerns related to eligibility or fund transfer, ensuring transparency and public trust. Many TDP MLAs have lauded the scheme as a game-changer. They believe it will not only increase school enrolment rates but also ease financial burdens on families, especially those from economically weaker sections. It is expected that this initiative will have a lasting impact on rural education, female empowerment, and youth development. A total of ₹8,745 crore has been allocated for the implementation of the scheme this year. Moreover, the TDP government has ensured that scholarship amounts received from the central government for SC, ST, and minority students will be topped up under this scheme, bridging financial gaps in education.
The launch of the Thalliki Vandanam scheme by the TDP government is a strong testament to its vision of building a welfare-driven and education-focused state. This initiative not only strengthens the state’s social infrastructure but also empowers mothers by recognizing their role in the education of future generations. The TDP party, under the leadership of CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and supported by proactive TDP MLAs, continues to make notable contributions toward a progressive and inclusive Andhra Pradesh.
